How do I update my DNS records and launch my website?
Before you start: Make sure Jottful is ready for you to launch your website. At Jottful, we need to set up some routing on our side before you can successfully launch.
Is this the big moment? Here's what to do:
- Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.). Create two A records (or one record with two values) for the root domain (a.k.a. “@”) where one points to “18.206.18.246” and the other points to “54.167.20.125”.
- If it is impossible to add two, just one can be used. This will launch your new Jottful website at that domain.
(Note: if you visit that IP address before pointing your domain it will not look like your website; that is because there is some routing on our side that will know that traffic coming to your domain should show the content of your new website.) DO NOT TOUCH the MX Records. This will allow your email to continue to work as it always has,
@ 18.206.18.246 A
@ 54.167.20.125 A
- Create or update a CNAME record for “www” that points to “mydomain.com” (to connect “www.yourdomain.com”). (Important: Please refrain from adding a CNAME record for "yourdomain.com" as it's just an example. Instead, use your actual domain name.)
- Wait. It can take up to 48 hours for your new website to propagate across the internet. How long it will take depends largely on your domain registrar; some registrars are faster than others.
